Twenty years after the official presentation of Viareggio’s waterfront strategic plan, developed by Richard Rogers Partnership (now RSHP), this paper examines the vision conceived by the international design team. The plan stands out as a pioneering project, remarkably ahead of its time in embracing rigorous principles of environmental, social, and economic sustainability. At the same time, it proposed a highly pragmatic framework, fully implementable in all its components at no cost to the community.
