Descrizione sintetica dell’intervento: At present, Viareggio’s harbour is overflowing, hard to manage and complicated by the cohexistence of far too many contrasting interests. There is a clear shortage of space for either tourist, commercial and industrial docking, and this results on a totally chaotic, conflicting and increasingly illegal use of the available space. The shipyards of international standing based in Viareggio, world leaders in the production of leisure yachts over 24 metres in lenght (a constantly growing sector not subject to any crisis) are forced to move the production and the servicing of their vessels to other ports in the Mediterranean. In addition, it is increasingly embarassing for shipbuilders like Azimut-Benetti, Perini Navi, Overmarine, Codecasa, just to name a few, to explain to ship owners or potential buyers who are ready to spend several millions on their boats the reasons why they cannot provide a suitable mooring of the same quality in the port of Viareggio. The strategic plan solves all these longstanding problems by substantially increasing the available space and by allocating each of the resulting yachting marinas to a single and specific category of use, creating at the same time an urban catalyst of exceptional quality which will significantly contribute to the development of the enormous potential of the harbour and its shipbuilding industries.
