Biography
Dr. Alessandro Rizzo, Architect (MArch, MA, PhD)
Born in Rome in 1966, MArch at the University of Florence in 1992, gets his post graduate degree (MA) in Housing & Urbanism at the Architectural Association in London in 1995. Phd in Urban and Architectural design (Florence 2012), adjunct professor of urban planning at the Faculty of Architecture in Florence (2013-2016). From 1996 to 2016, he taught at the University of Florence, Faculty of Architecture, where he coordinated the joint academic programme with the AA in London. At the AA, he has also lectured as external tutor and was part of students’ work evaluation juries. He was associated with Richard Rogers Partnership in London to develop the strategic masterplan for Viareggio’s seafront and with Joan Busquets in Barcelona to design a new tourist marina within the port of Viareggio. Among his works, besides the masterplan in Viareggio (1998-2002) and the new marina (2006-2009) are the new hotel and thermal baths on the lakeshore of Massaciuccoli (2002-2005), the Teresita beach club and wellness centre, for which he won the Balneapool prize in 2007, a multi-purpose building in tripoli (Libia), a public housing intervention for 30 units in Viareggio, the joint base transceiver station (BTS) network for Tim, Vodafone, H3G and Wind in Viareggio, the strategic planning for the urban development company for Viareggio’s port area, Vet Hospitals for VetPartners in Parma, Camaiore and Rome (2023-2025). Author of many books and articles on urban design, his professional and academic works are widely published on books and trade magazines. Works and lives in Viareggio.
